Trigger Links Show Who Clicked and Start a Workflow When They Do

A Trigger Link wraps any URL so GoHighLevel records who clicked it, then a workflow can tag the contact, alert your team or send the next message.

Trigger Links Track Who Clicked and Start a Workflow

Create a Trigger Link in GoHighLevel to record who clicks your links and fire automation the moment they do.

Watch it on its own page, with the transcript.

A Trigger Link is a tracked link you create once under Marketing > Trigger Links. You give it a name and a destination URL, and GoHighLevel gives you a link to use in texts and emails. When a contact clicks it, the click is recorded against that contact.

This matters because most businesses send links blind. You text a quote, a financing page or a booking page and have no idea who looked. With a Trigger Link, the Trigger Link Clicked workflow trigger can start automation the moment someone clicks. Add a tag, move the opportunity to a new stage, send an internal notification to the estimator, or stop a nurture sequence because the lead is clearly interested.

One detail makes it work. The click is tied to a contact only when the link is sent from inside GoHighLevel using the Trigger Link merge field. If you paste the raw link into a social post or a printed flyer, you will not get contact-level data. Also remember that a click is interest, not a purchase. Some email security scanners open links automatically, so send a test to yourself and check the contact's activity before you build anything that calls a customer based on a single click.

How to use it

  1. Go to Marketing > Trigger Links and click Add Link.
  2. Name the link and paste the destination URL, such as your quote or booking page.
  3. Insert the link into a text or email template using the Trigger Link merge field.
  4. In Automation > Workflows, add the Trigger Link Clicked trigger and pick your link.
  5. Add an action such as Add Tag or Internal Notification, then send a test to yourself.

Who it helps

Home service companies, clinics and agencies that send quotes, offers or booking links and want to know who actually opened them.

Related: Knowing the moment a lead clicks is the same idea as fast follow-up, which the sprint builds into your account.
