Add an SMS Consent Checkbox to Your Forms Before You Text Leads

A checkbox field on your intake form can document real SMS consent, which protects your A2P registration and keeps texts from getting filtered.

A checkbox field on your intake form can document real SMS consent, which protects your A2P registration and keeps texts from getting filtered.

GoHighLevel forms and funnels let you add a Checkbox field that a lead has to actively select before submitting. When you use that field to capture SMS consent instead of relying on a vague terms link, you create a timestamped record tied to the contact that shows they agreed to be texted.

This matters because carriers and A2P review look for proof of opt-in, not just a general privacy policy. If a contact never gave clear consent and later reports your number as spam, that hurts deliverability for every message you send from that account, not just to that one contact. A specific, unchecked-by-default checkbox with real language about texting is the cleanest way to show consent actually happened.

The detail people skip: the checkbox label has to say what they are consenting to, something like agreeing to receive appointment and marketing texts and that they can reply STOP to opt out. A checkbox that just says I agree to terms does not hold up the same way. Map the field to a custom field so the consent language and the submission date are both saved on the contact record.

How to use it

  1. Open Sites > Forms and edit the form used for lead capture
  2. Add a Checkbox field above the submit button
  3. Write consent language mentioning texts and the ability to reply STOP
  4. Map the field to a custom field so the answer saves to the contact
  5. Test a submission and confirm the consent value appears on the contact record
