Use Wait for Condition to Pause a Workflow Until Ready

Pause a Workflow Until a Condition Is Met

Wait for Condition holds a contact in your workflow until a tag, field, or stage changes, so follow-up reacts to real behavior.

Workflow trick | | 1 min read | By Yaakov (Koby) Oranski, Certified GoHighLevel Admin

The Wait for Condition action pauses a workflow until something specific happens, instead of waiting a fixed number of hours or days. You choose a condition, such as a tag being added, a custom field changing, or an opportunity moving to a certain stage, and the workflow holds the contact there until that condition becomes true.

This matters because most follow-up sequences guess at timing. A generic wait-two-days step fires whether or not the lead already replied, booked, or paid. Wait for Condition lets the workflow react to what actually happened, so a contact who books a call skips the next few follow-up texts instead of getting them anyway.

Always pair the condition with a maximum wait time. Without one, a contact who never meets the condition sits in that step indefinitely, and you lose visibility into where they got stuck. Give the wait a ceiling, then branch into a fallback action for anyone who times out.

How to use it

  1. Open Automation > Workflows and select the workflow to edit.
  2. Click the plus icon and add the Wait for Condition action.
  3. Pick the condition: tag added, custom field value, or opportunity stage.
  4. Set a maximum wait duration so contacts cannot get stuck.
  5. Add a fallback action for contacts who time out before meeting the condition.

Who it helps

Service business owners and agency operators building follow-up workflows that need to react to lead behavior instead of the clock.
