Add Buffer Time So Back-to-Back Bookings Never Collide

Buffer time in your calendar settings adds a quiet cushion between appointments so one running long does not bump into the next.

Every calendar in GoHighLevel lets you set buffer time before and after an appointment, a small padding window that keeps back-to-back bookings from running into each other. It sits in the calendar's Availability settings alongside slot duration and lets you separate one appointment from the next by a few minutes without changing your advertised hours.

Without a buffer, a client who books a 2:00 slot and another who books 2:30 can collide the moment either meeting runs long, a haircut spills over, a consult goes ten minutes past. Buffer time gives your team room to reset a chair, wrap up notes or drive between locations, and it does this quietly, the client only ever sees slots that already account for it.

The detail that trips people up: buffer time is set per calendar, not account-wide, so if you run separate calendars for different services or staff members you need to open each one and set it. It is also worth rechecking after you clone a calendar or push a snapshot, since the buffer field does not always carry over the way you expect.

How to use it

  1. Go to Settings > Calendars and open the calendar you use for bookings
  2. Click the Availability tab and locate the Buffer Time fields
  3. Enter minutes to pad before and after each appointment
  4. Save changes and book two test appointments back to back
  5. Repeat for every calendar tied to a different service or staff member

Who it helps

Clinics, salons, contractors and any service business that books back-to-back appointments on staff calendars.

Related: An account audit catches calendars missing buffer time along with other scheduling gaps before they cause client friction.
