How to get Yelp leads into GoHighLevel with phone numbers and AI replies

Yelp leads arrive without phone numbers, outside the conversations tab, and your AI agent cannot answer them. Here is how the Yelp to GoHighLevel connection actually works and how to do it right.

Short answer: Yelp leads arrive in GoHighLevel without phone numbers and outside the conversations tab because most setups use a Zapier contact import rather than a conversation integration. To make Yelp leads workable, you need a bridge that receives Yelp messages through Yelp's partner API, posts them into the GoHighLevel conversation on a Yelp channel, lets your AI or team reply back on Yelp, and captures the phone number into the contact record when the customer shares it. Yotomations built that bridge for its own clients and is an official Yelp Advertising Partner.

Why the usual setup fails

Every GoHighLevel client Yelp's own engineers had worked with, in their words, "has to build the integration themselves using webhooks." The common shortcut is Zapier: a new Yelp lead creates a contact. Three problems follow. The contact has no phone number, so no text sequence can fire and someone has to put their own number in to call. The conversation does not appear in the recent messages tab, so the team is hopping between the Yelp app and GHL. And GHL's native conversation AI has nothing to reply to, because there is no conversation on a channel it can send through. One client saw the AI follow up exactly 24 hours later, and the message never reached Yelp.

What a working integration does

  1. Receives each Yelp lead and every subsequent Yelp message through the partner API, verified and deduplicated so a message does not arrive twice, once as Yelp and once as SMS.
  2. Creates or matches the contact and posts the message into the GoHighLevel conversation on a Yelp channel, so it shows in the inbox and on mobile with formatting intact.
  3. Lets a reply from GoHighLevel, whether typed or from an AI agent, go back to the customer on Yelp.
  4. Detects a phone number when the customer shares it, writes it to the contact, and only then starts text and call workflows.
  5. Moves the opportunity through a Yelp-specific pipeline so cost per booked job can be measured against spend.

The first reply is where Yelp leads are won or lost

A duct cleaning client had plenty of Yelp leads and two months of break-even results. The issue was not the volume; it was the responses. The first message asked for details. Rewritten to lead with the offer price, next-day availability, review count and a single question, and followed by a 24-hour check-in, the same lead volume started converting. Yelp is a text-only channel where people are shopping several vendors at once; give them the answer before they ask.

A Yelp-specific workflow, not the Facebook one

Facebook leads opted into a form and expect a call. Yelp leads sent a message and expect a message back. Running both through the same sequence produces the wrong tone and the wrong timing. Build a separate Yelp pipeline with its own first reply, its own follow-up cadence and, when the phone number arrives, a hand-off to the normal booking flow.

Managing the ads and the leads together

Yelp rewards fast responses with better placement, so lead handling and campaign management are the same job. Our Yelp advertising management starts with a free competitor report, moves your account under partner pricing without losing ad credits, and connects the leads into GoHighLevel so the response happens in minutes. See how it works for a roofing contractor.

Frequently asked

Why do my Yelp leads have no phone number in GoHighLevel?

Yelp's lead data usually contains the name, the message and the project details but not a phone number, even when the customer wants to be contacted. The number has to be requested and captured inside the Yelp conversation, which is what a proper integration and a well-scripted AI reply do.

Can GoHighLevel's native AI agent reply to Yelp messages?

Only if the Yelp conversation is delivered into GoHighLevel as a conversation on a Yelp channel and replies are routed back through Yelp. With a plain Zapier contact import, the AI has nothing to reply to. With the Yelp partner integration, the AI can respond on Yelp and collect the phone number.

Will moving my Yelp ads under an agency take away my ad credits?

Moving an account under a Yelp Advertising Partner does not remove credits you have been granted; you gain partner pricing and reporting. Ask the partner to confirm in writing before the move, which we do.

What should the first reply to a Yelp lead say?

Price range or starting price, next available date, one line of proof (reviews, years, guarantee) and one question that moves toward booking. Asking three qualifying questions first is the most common reason Yelp leads do not convert.
